As digital literacy flourishes in Singapore and beyond, it’s essential to ensure no one gets left behind, especially seniors. At Lyza Education, we believe technology should be inclusive and accessible to all ages. That is why this September, we proudly partnered with Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Rotaract Club to introduce block-based coding to seniors at Yong-en Active Hub, using our beloved Kebbi the AI coding robot as their learning companion.
Why we did it
Many seniors face digital anxiety, feeling overwhelmed by complex tech jargon and syntax. We aim to change this narrative, demonstrating that coding is not only about hundreds of lines of text, but can also be intuitive, block-based logic. Even simple tasks can be automated with these tools, boosting confidence and sparking curiosity.
Our approach
Hands-on coding with Kebbi: Seniors worked through block-based exercises that allowed them to see immediate, tangible results, such as Kebbi dancing or speaking with emotion. This interactive approach helps demystify tech and showcase coding’s friendly side.
Inclusive mindset: By breaking down barriers and reframing coding as approachable and empowering, we helped seniors embrace digital learning as both useful and fun.
Volunteer preparation
To ensure our volunteers were confident to guide the seniors, Lyza held a special training session at our flagship Orchard Centre. Leading the session were our CEO Lizhang, who spearheaded our in-house CodeLab platform, and Yi Xin, both of whom ensured that volunteers were equipped with hands-on techniques, empathy, and adaptive teaching strategies.

Empowering Seniors Through Coding
At Lyza Education, we believe in transforming lives through inclusive, hands-on learning, and that was exactly what unfolded a few days. Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Rotaract Club joined forces with Yong-en Active Hub to host an inspiring block-based coding workshop for a group of 20 enthusiastic seniors.

Broader impact
By extending tech education to seniors, Lyza not only fosters intergenerational learning but also champions digital inclusivity, empowering seniors to remain curious, independent, and connected.

We also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Rotaract Club for collaborating with us on such a meaningful initiative. Your dedication to community service and intergenerational learning helped make the block-based coding workshops at Yong-en Active Hub with Kebbi, our AI coding robot, not only possible but truly impactful. Together, we are bridging the digital divide and inspiring seniors in Singapore to embrace the wonders of coding.
Discover that learning has no age limit! Just like seniors can take up new sports or skills, children can dive into coding with excitement.
